What’s Inside Our Kids’ Smoothie Pouches?

What’s Inside Our Kids’ Smoothie Pouches?

There’s been a lot of conversation online and in the news recently about pouches and kids' snacks, and we wanted to take a moment to explain everything you need to know about our smoothie pouches. From what’s inside them, how they’re made, and why we believe they’re a great option for your kids.

Let’s Talk About Sugar

Many kids' fruit snacks and smoothies are made with an apple or apple juice base. Apples are fantastic, they’re full of vitamins and are a great snack on their own. But when apples are broken down or only their juice is used, the sugar content can creep up quickly.

Did you know that some popular kids' smoothies contain over 10 grams of sugar per serving? That’s a lot, especially if your child is having multiple snacks a day. While natural sugars are better than added sugars, too much can still lead to those dreaded sugar rushes (and crashes) as well as health problems like tooth decay.

That’s one of the reasons we do things differently. Instead of an apple base, we use oat milk. Oats are full of goodness, naturally low in sugar, and add a creamy texture to our smoothies. This means your child gets a thick, satisfying smoothie that helps keep them full and fuelled without the sugar spikes.

Packed with Veggies

Fruit is wonderful, and many kids happily eat plenty of it. Veggies, though, can be a bit more challenging. We know how hard it can be to get kids to try new vegetables, and we wanted to create something that helps parents sneak more veg into their kids’ diets without the battles.

That’s why our smoothies contain up to 45% vegetables. We blend real fruit and veg together, so your kids get all the benefits of veggies, cleverly disguised by delicious fruit flavours. The high proportion of veg also helps to keep the sugar levels low. We never use anything artificial, just real fruit and veg, with the fruit bringing the sweetness and the veg delivering essential nutrients.

Purees, Not Juices

Another thing that sets us apart is how we process our ingredients. Juicing fruit and vegetables can strip away a lot of the natural fibre, which is a key part of what makes them so good for us. Fibre helps keep kids fuller for longer and supports healthy digestion.

That’s why we use purees rather than juices in our smoothie snacks. This way, we retain much more of the fruit and veg’s natural fibre and goodness, giving our smoothies a thick, smooth texture that’s both satisfying and nutritious.

What About Vitamins?

A common question we hear is whether processing fruit and veg causes a loss of vitamins. The simple answer is yes, processing any food can reduce its natural vitamin content.

To make sure your kids are still getting all the nutrients they need, we fortify all our smoothies with added vitamins and minerals. This includes calcium and essential vitamins like C, D, B2, and B12, nutrients that are crucial for growing kids. So even though the natural vitamin levels may drop a bit during processing, we top them back up to make sure every pouch delivers real goodness.

In Summary

We know there’s a lot of choice out there when it comes to kids’ snacks, and it can be overwhelming to figure out what’s best. That’s why we’re committed to making all our products as healthy, balanced, and transparent as possible. With a low sugar oat milk base, up to 45% vegetables, real fruit and veg purees (not juices), and added vitamins and minerals, we believe our smoothies are a snack you can feel good about giving your kids.
